Q: 1965 Santa Fe Trailer hitch is 3" too low for my 2001 Ranger ball on the bumper?
I have a 2001 ford ranger 4cyl, 5sp standard bed, and just picked up a 12ft (looks smaller) 1965 Santa Fe camp trailer. I towed it home no problem, but the trailer hitch is too low, and makes the rear end of the trailer visibly hang down. is this a bad way to tow it? Is there some way to mount a lower ball on the "step bumper" of my 2001 ranger? I went to
Walmart and they had some 2 1/2 inch "drop down" parts, but the "bolt hole" in those are horizontal, ie, that part would not hook to my bumper where the current ball is....any ideas please?
A: being on a bumper....using a lowering adapter, would change the stress points. get a frame mounted one,,,,,,,
Q: What would be the best speaker for my 2001 ranger xlt?
The right door panel speaker is messed up so Im replacing both door panel speakers. Which aftermarket speakers would be good to buy? Im not looking for anything spectacular, but I do want something that will sound good. I would say im willing to spend no more than $50 for the pair. The head unit is stock just to let you know, not planning on getting rid of it.
A: i would say go to as many audio stores as you can and look/listen to and see what you think sounds good to you. that is the only way to do it. never let some one tell you what to get.

Q: How many catalytic converters do you need for a 2001 ranger to be street legal?
I have quite a few on there and really dont think i need them, but i am looking for feedback.
A: its not a matter of being street legal ford sends there cars out to have testing done so they put the system together so it cleans the air the best so that is why there are so many if you remove them you may not pass the emission test
Q: How to tell if 2001 Ranger has limited slip differential?
Other than putting it on sand and revving up the engine, is there a code to tell if it has limited slip? I just bought it. It's a rear drive.

A: on some of them , if you look at the cover plate and follow the bolts around , one bolt will have a tag on it. i have seen them state (limited slip) on that tag. the idea of flooring it and seeing if one tire or two makes a mark just makes me laugh. i have an open differential and still i can get equal marks down the road, all you need for that is good and equal traction.

Q: how can i program a new key for a ford ranger 2001?
I only have one key , and i want to add another , I have new key already , just need to cut it and program.
A: Locksmith or dealer will have to program the key. No on board programming without two programmed keys. I can understand the desire to save money, but due to hundreds of bad keys from ebay and other sources, most locksmiths and almost all dealers refuse to cut and program keys not from their stock. People hate to think they were taken by the one 'saving them money' and will blame the last one who touched it.
Q: What is the gas mileage on a 2001 Ranger 4.0 automatic 4x4 ?
are there any other 4X4 trucks that get better mileage that are also automatic and have a v6?
A: I have a 2000 with a 3.0 & it gets 18-19 on the highway. The 4.0 should about the same or slightly better. 18-20 is about the best you can hope for in a 4x4.
Q: On my 2001 Ranger Pickup my back wheels squeek when they turn, at low speed,and when I apply brakes.?
I had new brake pads and roters installed 6 months ago, what could cause the wheels to squeek?
A: If the wheels are new they will squeak or if the brakes have been wet recently like if it rained or something.
Q: my 2001 ranger has a 2.3L engine. How many spark plugs does it have?
The owner's manual says it has 8 plugs. The dealer says he only changed four plugs because it only has 4 plugs. The engine looks like the diagram in the owner's manual with 4 spark plug wires going into the top of the engine.
A: there was a 2 plug head, and the manual covers both the single and dual plugs :)

labor included..ballpark.. also how long would this take to replace one
A: Your gonna pay about $60 for the part and another $60-70 for labor. This is a relativly easy fix and can usually be doen with very minimal auto experience. shoot for $150 and I think you would be safe.

A: it will be rather loud, sound crap inside the car, and also outside, the engine also requires some back pressure from the exhaust to work at its best.

A: I don't know an exact price, but I do know that keys with the "chips" in them are more, and also if the key had a built in button box it will be a lot more. I needed an extra key for my hondai sonata and it was going to be like 250.00. It had the chip in it, but not the button box that was separate.

Im putting a Cherry bomb glass pack on it but not for really to add any horsepower but to make it sound a little louder
A: There are loads of things that you can do, the only thing that limits you is the money you are prepared to spend and how drivable you want the ranger to after you have done the work.
For example a very good mod is to fit larger injectors, the down side is that your fuel consumption will go up.
To start with I would fit a free flow air filter, make sure it has a good cold air supply to it.
Next I would probably get the engine chipped to release more power.
You could look at fitting higher lift cams but these can be massively expensive for a fairly low power gain.
Another thing to do is change the ration on the final drive, this will give you a faster pull away but you will loss top end speed.

Q: 2001 Ford Ranger Side Marker Lights. How to replace?
Could anyone give me a couple details on how to replace one of the front lights on a 2001 ford ranger? I'm not quite certain about what they're called, and i've tried searching for the answer myself as well. Alas, I couldn't find any instructions nor what the lights were called. The lights are on the outer sides at the front, the yellow ones.
Please and thank you for any help you can give me on how to replace the bulbs. And i've already gone to buy the light bulbs i need.
A: The lamps you are describing are indeed the side markers. You will need to remove the turn signal lenses in order to remove the side markers.
The turn signals lenses are just below the headlamps.
Look in the gap between the bumper and the lenses and you will see phillips head screws securing the lenses
