Q: How much to lower my 2001 F-150 that as already been lifted too high?
i much would it cost me to lower my truck...its a 2001 ford f-150?
A: That would be very difficult to answer as we don't know how it was lifted. Is it by different springs? A body lift? Different spindles?
A body lift kit could be simply removed, labor only. Springs or spindles would require parts plus labor.
Q: i have a 2001 f-150 and im wondering if theres a front chrome bumper i can purchase besides the factory one?
if your familiar with fords im sure you know the bumper that comes on the truck and it has the black plastic on the top and bottom!so my question is,i would like to buy a chrome bumper that's longer so i can due away with the plastic on the top and bottom!does that make sense?could maybe a bumper for a newer model F-150 fit on my truck?
A: You could get the lightning style front bumper. Or the Harley Davidson style.
Or you can go with the aftermarket cobra style.

Ford or ebay is where you can find the other 2
Q: What can I do to my 2001 F-150 to get optimum gas mileage?
I know that I can add a throttle body spacer, tornado(?), cold air intake, and new exhaust but Is that it and will these items help? I would appreciate any sage advice I get from other car enthusists or from someone who has already upgraded their truck.
A: New Spark Plugs (gapped properly), synthetic oil (slightly more thermally efficient and viscous than traditional oils), properly inflated tires, and maybe a power programmer from Banks, Bully Dog, or Hypertech.
The Tornado is bunk. Think about what the air comes up against weather or not it is spinning... The Throttle Body Butterfly sits smack dab between your Tornado and the Intake Manifold. That butterfly is almost never all the way open (the only way a Tornado might offer any benefit) especially if you are trying to save gas!
Hope this helps!
Q: How do you know when your gear box on a 2001 f-150 is bad?
When i jack up the front of the truck the trucks wheel can move side to side can see the Pittman arm that's on gear box move with it when i move tire. Shouldn't that be all tight?
A: Sort of. If it moves side to side, the steering wheel should be spinning. If it's moving side to side, but the steering wheel is not moving, then there should be extremely little free movement. An 1/8" would be a lot.
Q: How much would a mechanic charge to replace a throw-out bearing in 2001 F-150?
A: your question said, how much would a mechanic....well, no mechanic i know would replace just the throw-out bearing. in order to reach it, you have to pull the tranny anyhow, no matter what type a vehicle you own 2 or 4 wheel so, always resurface the flywheel and replace the clutch and pressure plate as well. dont skimp, or you'll end up paying to have it done twice. always keep your freeplay adjusted correctly too in your vehicle, thats the only thing that wears them out, except for ppl who leave there foot on the clutch as they' run thru the gears upshifting....always remove your foot between gears, and the only time you'll ever replace the trhrow-out, is when the clutch goes bad,,,try adkjusting it now, and let it make noise for a couple more years b-4 you do the work..remember...keep your foot off the pedal!!!
Q: What can I do to stop the intake manifold gasket from warping on a 2001 F-150?
I moved from Houston, TX (A very hot place) to Wilmington, DE (It gets really cold in the winter) and my intake manifold gasket warped due to the hot and cold transition. I know the intake is plastic and the repairman said a lot of Ford trucks have this problem. I'm tired of dishing out money to get this fixed. Is there anything I can do to remedy this as purchasing a new vehicle is not really in my budget?
A: the gasket is not the problem, the intake is. there have been recalls on some ford plastic intakes on the 4.6l engine. the only thing you can do is replace the intake with an aluminum one and get rid of the plastic intake.
Q: how to replace heater control valve in a 2001 F 150?
Heater blowing cold air. New thermostat & water pump in summer. A/C appears to be functioning appropriately. Heater hose from thermostat is hot, other one is cold. Was told most likely is heater control valve. Haynes manual not helpful for replacement.
A: Not sure about that particular vehicle, but they are usually mounted in one of the heater hoses, inline. Find where they go into the firewall, and it should be spliced into one of them near there, held on with hose clamps. Circular in shape, with probably a vacuum hose to operate it. Check to make sure that's not disconnected or broken first. If not that, it could also be a plugged heater core. You could put a plain piece of copper tube of the right size where the heater valve is, to make sure the valve is the problem, and not the heater core.
Q: How to replace PCV valve on 2001 F-150 Triton 5.4 V8? Also, where is it located?
My vehicle has 160,000 miles and has burned 2 quarts of oil at 3000 miles. Someone told me to change the PCV valve because sometimes a bad PCV valve can cause oil consumption.
I appreciate your assistance.
A: I'm glad you caught the oil in time. That was close!
You probably should check the oil level every time you get gas for a while, and keep a quart of oil in the trunk to add when necessary, unless changing the PCV valves cures your oil consumption.
At many auto parts stores you can buy a Haynes or Chilton's do-it-yourself manual for your model car, with step-by-step instructions, and basic explanations at the beginning of each chapter. If it is not in stock, you can order it online by searching on "auto repair manuals" on Yahoo search. In the front is a section on "Troubleshooting" that guides you step-by-step to find causes of most engine malfunctions based on the car's symptoms. Whether you do the work yourself or not, it helps you make informed decisions and not be taken advantage of, and to not feel so "in the dark."
db667089 says: you can check http://www.alldatadiy.com. For about the same price as a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual, you can have online access (for a whole year) to model specific info for your particular vehicle. This is the same info that repair shops use. They have great wiring schematics/diagrams.
Also, for about $15 for a one-month subscription, you can get the factory manual, downloadable (careful! Mine was about 500 pages!) or viewable, at http://eAutoRepair.com.
Also, many people recommend autozone.com's free online manuals.
Best regards,
Mike
Q: how to take the factory sterio out of a ford f-150 2001 model out?
Please help i need to take my sterio out of my ford f-150 2001 model asap
A: it wont be asap, ford should be famous for the bracket on the back of the stereo
Q: Where does the break controller connect on a 2001 F-150?
I just purchased a new break controller for our camper. The Chilton manual nor the instructions show a diagram for the factory connecting plug. The controller came with a plug designed for the F-150 but did not mention where the mate to it is located.
A: Fordman is pretty much correct.. there is a 6 wire plug that is under the dash right next to another black plug in... it's pretty much in line with the gas pedal but is tucked under the dash and is grey colored and looks just like the one that your controller supposedly has.
Q: My 2001 F 150 AC is not working properly. Why?
I have a 2001 F 150 with the 5.4 automatic trans. When down shifting the AC comes out of the defroster vent, and does not come back to normal until the engine is not working as hard. When going uphill and working harder the air comes out of the defroster. This leads me to believe that this is a vacuum problem. Any sugestions would be great.
A: It is indeed a vacuum leak. You have a small enough leak that the engine overcomes it unless on long acceleration. Acceleration causes no engine vacuum, and there is a vacuum storage canister to allow full function in a no vacuum situation. You need to look at all the lines, likely one is off somewhere under the dash, or to the hot water valve under the hood. Pay special attn to the white line. This is the recirc door and hot water vacuum.
Q: I have a 2001 F-150 with stock speakers (2 of 4 are blown). Can i still hook up sub woofers?
Does a sub woofer even effect the sound of my speakers or is it just additional sound on top of what i originally had? I have two blown speakers, and i dont want it to sound worse i just want more "Bump".
A: The sub will have no effect on the already blown speakers. The only thing is that they might rattle a bit if you turn the volume up, but that would also happen without subs.. You probably should replace them and add an amp for the other speakers or else all you're going to hear is bass.
Q: How do I removed the door panel to get to my speakers in my 2001 f-150 extended cab. Thanks.?
also if you could, please give me some pointers on putting in new speakers.
A: do what they said but if it doesnt come off make sure you didnt miss any screws.
there really isnt any way to put speakers in wrong just make sure you put a hole in the speaker when you put the door panel back on.
if you buy a Chilton manual for your car for about $15 at autozone it tells you virtually everything about your specific type of car.
Q: 2001 f-150 makes real loud metal type noises when trying to start it?
First the truck was shaking while driving, seemed like it started when going around 60mph and now it doesn't even start. When I try to start it, it makes a real loud sound like hitting metal. Does anyone know what this might be?? Thanks
A: Sounds like the flex plate might be coming off the back of the crankshaft. It's the part that connects the torque converter to the engine.
Q: my 2001 f-150 speedometer quit working but all the other gauges work fine? any suggestions to what this?
could be? serious answers only thanks in advance
A: Could be the vehicle speed sensor (not sending a signal all the way to your dash)
Check your fuses? If the other gauges are working, this probably still works. Your problem exists somewhere in between. Consider pulling out the gauge cluster and making sure all the connections are good? Perhaps part of the circuit board behind the gauge shorted out...
